The Power of the Picture:
When was the last time you looked at a picture? Our bet is your answer would be within the past few minutes, or perhaps seconds. Visuals, images, pictures are everywhere around us, constantly, be they on signs, billboards, books, newspapers and magazines . . .did we leave anything out? Oh yes, the Internet (Wow---we almost forgot social media and P.R.!). Please join Dan Dry, Senior Vice President and Chief Visual Officer of Power Creative, for a look at and discussion about the impact that effective photography and the use of it can have on helping your clients communicate their messages. You will also have a chance to take a tour of the five buildings spread over five acres that make up Power Creative’s campus and hear remarks by President and CEO David Power.
Award winning photographer, Dan Dry, currently holds the position of Chief Visual Officer and Senior Vice President at Power Creative, and is one of America’s most widely recognized photographers. He has won over 400 national and international photography, advertising and design awards during his career, including the St James Art Fair Gala’s Most Influential Artist for 2011. He also won the prestigious Gold Award as well as four Silver Awards in the 2011 LGDA 100 Show. Dan has received his profession’s highest honor, having been named the National Press Photographer of the Year by the National Press Photographers Association and most recently, he was honored with the 2011 Kentucky Photographer of the Year by the Kentucky News Photographers Association.

This offer will be the same as previous free Chapter campaigns. When a new member joins PRSA National during February and uses promotion code FEB12, they will receive a free one-year membership to the PRSA Chapter of their choice. PRSA National covers the cost of the first-year Chapter dues! We are also offering a free Section membership to new members joining in March, with promotion code MAR12, as well as discounts for existing PRSA members to join a Section (details for the Section promotion coming soon).
In order to assist you, we’ve created a Promotion Materials website within the Membership area of the Chapter Leadership Toolkit section of MyPRSA that provides tips and tools to get the most from this and all other promotions throughout the year. We have created these resources to expand our reach — all of which can be downloaded from the website. If you would like hard copies of the promotional flyer, please contact me directly with your request.
This free Chapter offer is open to new members and reinstating members who have been inactive for at least one year and rejoin as regular members. (Associate and renewing members are not eligible). Reimbursements to Chapters for this promotion are made with the monthly payments that National sends to Chapters for dues collected.
Also, please be aware that during all National promotion months, we will be offering new Associate Members joining with less than two years of public relations experience a free one-year membership in the New Professionals Section. Details are available online also.

Given the theme for the 2011 Landmarks Awards competition-"Knockout Public Relations and Communications" -the Muhammad Ali Center proved a fitting locale for the event's 29th annual awards dinner. With more than 100 awards presented this year across eight categories, it was clear to see Louisville's community of top-notch communications and PR professionals know how to deliver knockout work. One highlight at the October 18th "main event"
was the induction of veteran PR maven Dan Hartlage, a principal with Guthrie/Mayes, into the Landmarks of Excellence Hall of Fame. Another high point for the evening was the recognition of Mayor Greg Fischer as the 2011 Communicator of the Year. More than 200 guests attended this year's awards dinner. Landmarks is conducted by the PRSA Bluegrass Chapter and IABC of Kentucky to recognize outstanding PR and communications work. Entries for the annual competition are generally due in early August, with judging done by September and winners recognized in October, so watch for future details on how you can be part of this prestigious event. See the attached document for a list of all of 2011's Excellence, Merit and Honorable Mention award recipients.
